St. Elizabeth’s Health Center!
On November 17th St. Elizabeth’s marks 56 years serving the uninsured and underserved in the Tucson community. St. Elizabeth’s provides primary care, integrated behavioral health and dental services. The Quilt For a Cause mission focuses on breast and gynecologic cancers. St. Elizabeth’s has a large team of medical professionals to serve female patients, many of whom are dealing with breast, uterine, cervical or ovarian cancers. And 40% – 45% of patients using St. Elizabeth’s services have no health insurance.
St. Elizabeth’s offers high quality health care with respect and dignity to these otherwise underserved people. The staff works independently and with the Pima County Well Woman Program to develop relationships with health care providers and agencies. They negotiate discounted prices for diagnostic and treatment services. Each patient goes through a comprehensive process to determine eligibility so that valuable financial resources are used for those who truly need them. Funds raised by St. Elizabeth’s and other donors including Quilt For a Cause, Inc. are used to pay for treatment services.
St. Elizabeth’s Health Center is a primary recipient of monies raised by Quilt For a Cause, Inc. We are gratified to know that QFaC funds benefit those who are most in need of assistance. St. Elizabeth’s is a place of last resort for the underserved and uninsured at a time when health care is increasingly expensive. QFaC funds are restricted to breast and gynecologic cancers services and are used at St. Elizabeth’s almost every day. Recently, the Susan G. Komen organization ceased fundraising and granting funds in Arizona making other agencies’ fundraising exceedingly important. St. Elizabeth’s is reaching out to find ways to close this funding gap. QFaC thanks St. Elizabeth’s Health Center for their work and is proud to help.
Thanks to St. Elizabeth’s CEO, Jane Bakos, Karrie Cravens, NP and Carmen Noriega, Development Officer for contributions to this article. Thanks, also, for St. Elizabeth’s gracious recognition of QFaC’s efforts to help by honoring Quilt For a Cause, Inc. on National Philanthropy Day, 2017. We continue to “Sew a Cure for Cancer.”
