Quilts in the Garden Event – A Great Success!

Many of our Quilt For a Cause supporters joined us on October 3rd and enjoyed an advance view of over twenty of the quilts donated for the 2016 Auction. Cate Johnson and David Schmidtz opened their lovely home to us for the event. We hung quilts in their garden and inside their home. Five were purchased during the afternoon. While Kevin Pakulis and Karl Hoffmann entertained all with guitar music, guests and Board members had the opportunity to visit and discuss QFaC’s mission and goals, all the while enjoying great food and drinks provided by Jak’s Catering, Designs by Daisy and Wildcat Market and Liquour. The lovely Judy Niemeyer pattern raffle quilt, made by Susan Brown and quilted by Julie House using fabrics donated by The Quilters Market was a highlight of the afternoon. Everyone hoped for their name to be called and the lucky lady who won it is Joan Swanson. Many others shared luck when their numbers were drawn for door prizes of “Fat Quarter Bouquets” made by Carol Zupancic. The loveliness of the afternoon was rounded out with beautiful flower arrangements provided by our hosts from Mayfield Florists and welcoming all throughout the afternoon to Cate and David’s home filled with artistic and traditional quilts.

Thank you to all of QFaC and Friends for making this a wonderful event furthering our mission to “Sew a Cure for Cancer.”

Gabby Giffords donates Quilts

Quilt For a Cause has been blessed with the donation of 10 quilts from Gabby Giffords. After the tragic events of Jan. 8, 2011, over 40,000 tokens of love and comfort were left at spontaneous memorial sites. After cataloging, some were selected for the permanent memorial in Tucson, while others were designated to be donated to local charities .Gabby learned about Quilt For a Cause through the Arizona Quilt Documentation Project, as her quilts were being documented, and decided to donate some of her quilts to us. The two smallest ones will be in the Small Quilt Auction at the Tucson Quilt Fiesta next February (benefiting QFaC), and the other eight will be included in the Quilt For a Cause auction at Tucson Medical Center. Many thanks and best wishes to Gabby, and her assistant, Joni Jones, who delivered the quilts to us at the May 13 Guild meeting!
