Learn more about Quilt for a Cause, Inc.

Quilt for a Cause auctions and sells handmade quilts and quilt patterns donated by quilters to support breast and gynecological cancer research.

Our mission: To use the art and business of quilting to pursue advances in breast and/or gynecologic cancers by raising funds for research, by continuing the education of medical professionals, and by supporting clinical organizations that raise awareness, offer detection and provide treatment for all women.

In March 2013, $125,000 was raised from our fourth Quilt Auction and other fundraisers throughout the year to fight Women’s Cancers. The recipients were: Tucson Medical Center Foundation ($107,141) and St. Elizabeth’s Health Center ($26,500). Quilts donated for the Auction were received primarily from members of the Tucson Quilters Guild with others coming from 25 states, Canada, Italy and the United Kingdom.

At our third auction in October 2009, more than 600 quilters from 30 states and 3 Provinces of Canada donated 284 quilts, raising $113,000.00. The Tucson Medical Center and St. Elizabeth’s Health Center are the recipients of the proceeds.

At our second auction in October 2006, 545 donated quilts raised approximately $120,000.00, and expenses were kept to less than 1%. The Women’s Division of the Cancer Center at UMC received $63,000 with funds restricted for breast & gynecologic cancer research. The Tucson Medical Center Foundation received $55,000 for a digital specimen radiography system and $8,000 to help uninsured women under 40 who have had a mastectomy with breast surgery construction.

At our first auction in November 2003, we auctioned over 200 quilts and raised $53,000.00 for the American Cancer Society and the Tucson Medical Center Foundation’s Joel Childers M.D. Fund.

One out of 7 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. Annually, it is estimated there will be 77,500 new cases of gynecologic cancer in the US with 26,500 deaths. Many of our lives have been touched in some way by women’s cancer, and our Board of Directors hopes that it will give you great solace to participate in this venture with us. Thank you for your interest.
