It’s December! As our thoughts turn to holidays, parties and family-togethers, Quilt For a Cause (QFaC) is wrapping up our three-year fund raising cycle.   After our 2013 auction, many Board Directors retired. With four auctions under their belts, they sought new people to continue the fine work they started.  This 2014 – 2016 cycle was exciting as new directors picked the brains of our predecessors.  Their help was priceless.

Along the way, we lost Dorothy Lee, a founding and continuing Board Director, to cancer prompting QFaC to dedicate the 2016 auction to all those women who have fought a battle with cancer, win or lose.  Additionally, we are grateful to the many people who donated quilts, participated in any of our activities or donated time and treasure to support the QFaC’s fund raising activities.

Bus trips, trunk shows and quilts in the community sales preceded the 2016 auction held at Tucson Medical Center (TMC).  The Silent Auction began on September 10th with more than 40 wonderful volunteers helping to hang quilts throughout the halls at TMC.  They returned to help again with taking down the Silent Auction quilts after the Live Auction, on October 15th.   The Live Auction featured Corky Collins, auctioneer, assisted by emcee, Mike Serres.  Mike’s quilting “facts” kept all amused as Corky sold quilts to lucky buyers.  In between times, CSM delighted all around musically.  Throughout the cycle 418 quilts sold bringing in slightly over $105,000.  The QFaC Board of Directors is delighted to distribute these funds to this cycle’s beneficiaries:  $75,000 to Tucson Medical Center Foundation and $30,000 to St. Elizabeth’s Health Center

In January, QFaC begins a new cycle.  We hope to continue the various fund raisers used in the past as well as provide more frequent smaller sales of shorter duration.  We will begin collecting donations of quilts after the New Year holiday.  Our goal to raise funds to “Sew a Cure for Cancer” continues.  Thank you to all who have donated in the past and to those who will donate in this next fund raising cycle.  Your help, too, is priceless!
