At Quilt For a Cause we are excited to welcome the new year and new opportunities!

As 2016 closed, we learned that Tucson Medical Center provided almost 300 free mammograms to under- and uninsured women during the year and three of those women are currently undergoing treatment.  The money that Quilt for a Cause donates to the TMC Foundation contributes to TMC’s ability to provide these services.  Thanks to all the quilters who donated quilts and buyers who now have lovely, new quilts.  Because of you, Quilt for a Cause, Inc. was able to present the TMC Foundation with $75,000 in December.

St. Elizabeth’s Health Center was another December recipient of monies raised by Quilt for a Cause.  Upon presenting the $30,000 check to St. Elizabeth’s CEO, Jane Bakos, she said with tears in her eyes, “This is a Christmas Miracle!”  Unbeknownst to the Quilt for a Cause Board, just that morning St. Elizabeth’s had a finance meeting at which the last of their patient care funds were encumbered.

With these stories warming our hearts, Quilt for a Cause is ready to move into 2017 with joy and enthusiasm.  Our organization has concentrated on a large, triennial auction with some smaller fundraisers such as bus trips and boutiques at quilt shows.  We are not abandoning our triennial cycle, however, in 2017, Quilt for a Cause wants to look for more venues to raise awareness of breast and gynecologic cancers and our mission to “Sew a Cure for Cancer.”  We hope to increase the number of events before beginning to plan for the next major auction.

We invite you to join us in this worthy venture.  Quilters and anyone who sews can donate quilts of any size, tote bags, handbags, table runners, placemats, and fiber art pieces.  All donated items need to be handmade (not necessarily hand sewn) and new.  Click on Donate or Contact Us in the ribbon above to donate.  We will sell them in boutiques, at auctions, exhibits and online with proceeds going toward our mission to defeat breast and gynecologic cancers.  Quilt for a Cause is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization run entirely by volunteers.
