Quilt For A Cause – Out and About, Fighting Cancer
Contributed by Karen Kelter
Since 2003, when Jeannie Coleman and Carol Zupancic, two cancer survivors who had a common interest in quilting, formed a non-profit organization to use the art of quilting to help in the fight against breast and gynecologic cancers, Quilt For a Cause has grown into a very active organization. Now in 2018, the number of foundations, health centers and other organizations devoted to serving women with these cancers which QFaC contributes to has grown.
Arizona Oncology Foundation – We support the Festival of Trees and Lights in early December and continue to support them in helping patients fight their battles with breast and gynecologic cancers.
BAG IT! – We are helping them to provide tools needed to empower women to cope with the challenges associated with their diagnoses and treatments.
El Rio Health Center Foundation –We are partnering with El Rio Foundation in raising funds to purchase the 3D mammography machine and to assist uninsured women diagnosed with cancer to obtain needed treatment.
National Ovarian Cancer Coalition – We are pleased to be able to support their mission to increase the survival rate of women battling ovarian cancer.
St. Elizabeth Health Center – We continue to support St. Elizabeth in the effort to provide women the help they need in receiving diagnosis and treatment of GYN and breast cancer.
Tucson Cancer Conquerors – We help support their services assisting cancer survivors to achieve maximum wellness,
Tucson Medical Center Foundation – We contribute to TMC Foundation to assist TMC’s Breast Screening Program.
We are forever thankful for the hundreds of quilters who have made quilts, have encouraged others to make quilts, who have helped us in our entire process of collecting quilts, displaying quilts and served on committees to help us sell our quilts throughout the community. We hope to continue our service until we have conquered these terrible diseases.
The Quilt, Craft and Sew Event is November 15, 16 & 17. You can visit us and buy one or more tickets for our opportunity quilt, Christmas Star. (Click on Opportunity Quilt! on the ribbon at the top of this page to purchase here.) We will also sell our patterns that have been designed by local and nationally known quilters. We will have the drawing for the Christmas Star quilt on Saturday, the 17th at 3 pm.
Our Holiday Shopping Sales Event will be December 7th & 8th at the Tucson Medical Center, Fireplace Room, Patio Building at the corner of Grant and Beverly Road. The hours are Friday from 9 am to 6 pm and Saturday 8 am to 6 pm. Quilts of all types and sizes: art, wall hangings, lap, throws, baby and bed quilts are available for your holiday gift giving.
We are accepting quilts for our next auction and upcoming events. You may turn in your quilt at the QFaC table at the Tucson Quilt Guild meetings or at any of our drop-off sites listed under Donate on the ribbon at the top of this page.
