Successful Road2CA Trip

Successful Road 2 California Trip

QFaC President Terry Gallegos at Road 2 CA preview night

Another exciting and fun bus trip to the Road 2 California  has come and gone.  We have only the memories left. Quilt for a Cause again filled two buses of enthusiastic, fun-loving and dedicated quilters for a road trip to Ontario, CA, for the Road 2 California quilt show. This was their 20th show. There were hundreds of quilts including 10 special exhibits. Hoffman fabrics had a large display showing the history of the company and the years of entries they have sponsored where they challenge quilters to make quilts using specified fabric they produce every year. There was also an exhibit of quilts inspired by the art of Vincent van Gogh created by using hand-dyed fabric from Cherrywood Fabrics. There was also an exhibit of quilts celebrating strong women, HERstory, and a red and white quilts exhibit. Southern Arizona was well represented in the show. Lorraine Blas from Vail, Roberta Sipes from Huachuca City and Tami Graeber and Kathy Adams from Tucson had quilts in the show.  This is a juried show; congratulations to these quilters.

It seems that the sewing/quilting machine companies introduce a new machine every year just like the auto industry. And some of the machines are almost as expensive! I know some of our quilters came home with a new machine to add to their sewing rooms.  If you listen closely, you will hear the humming of all those machines all over town. There were newly designed rotary cutters, new rulers and templates that we couldn’t resist and much fabric and kits that will keep us busy until the next show.

Quilt For a Cause will have a booth at the Quilt Fiesta! February 16-18.  We will have information about our organization as well as samples of quilts for which we have patterns.  We will be introducing two new patterns this year: Constellation Stars by Evelyn George and a paper pieced pattern by Ann Adams called Fun with Log Cabins. We are collecting quilts now for our next auction and other fundraisers; stop by our booth and see what we are about and learn how to donate for our cause.

One of our quilts, Petals and Plumes, created and donated by Pat Curtis and Suzanne Irving, was on display at the Quilt Festival in Houston, TX in November 2017, as part of the “In the American Tradition” exhibit. It was chosen for its use of reproduction fabrics and its vintage look.
